During the winter I often have cold sore outbreaks on the lips. When they break out – it takes from 2 to 3 weeks to heal and are very painful. This time – as soon as I felt it building up and saw the reddish signs of the outbreak – I started treating the cold sore with an easy mixture of coconut and oregano oil. The cold sore disappeared by the end of the second day.

Another simple remedy: Garlic – as soon as you feel the outbreak building up – just cut a piece of garlic and start massaging the spot with it. It may burn for a short period of time (maybe 30-60 sec) and then the burn dissipates. The outbreak will not even happen.

Oreganol

Here is the recipe:
In a container, scoop 1 tsp of coconut oil. Add 5 drops of oregano oil (I use widely popular Oreganol)
Apply with a q-tip at least 5 times a day. (I kept the mixture around the sink to  see it and applied every time I would wash my hands)

Skin Benefits of Oregano Oil:
Most of the health benefits of oregano oil can be attributed to the presence of carvacrol and thymol compounds as they have the ability to kill harmful microbes in the body. These powerful phenols have anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-parasitic, and anti-fungal properties. Being a strong and effective blood purifier, antioxidant and rich in vitamins and minerals, oregano oil is very beneficial for your skin. Topical application of this oil in a diluted form is known to treat acne, itches, irritations and stops the herpes virus from manifesting altogether. Since it possesses anti-bacterial properties, it has the ability to destroy candida and other unknown bad germs causing skin infections.

Skin Benefits of Coconut Oil:
– Coconut oil contains 3 fatty acids: capric acid, lauric acid and caprylic acid. Each of these acids kill candida, a common cause of fungal infection on your skin.
– The Vitamin E found in coconut oil soothes eczema, sunburn and psoriasis, and its antiviral and antifungal benefits even help to treat bug bites.
– Coconut oil is a powerful moisturizer that is beneficial to restoring dry or flaking skin.  A human study found it to be effective in increasing hydration and reducing water loss in seriously dry skin – unlike the average moisturizers that contains a lot of water and likely synthetic ingredients, coconut oil helps to strengthen skin tissue more deeply and eliminate dead skin cells while absorbing quickly into your skin.
– A recent animal study found that when applied topically, virgin coconut oil can speed up wound healing.
